CRAFT  &  COMMUNITY

We are grateful to our community for embracing our winery, kindly allowing us to grow out of our current location.  While our roots remain in Twin Oaks Valley and we continue to pursue building a state-of-the-art wine production facility and tasting room at 1451 Mulberry Drive in San Marcos, until that facility is complete, we are moving the tasting room and wine production to a NEW LOCATION on Grand Avenue in Escondido.  We would love to save you a seat and fill your glass!

Our Story

OLD WORLD WINES IN SAN DIEGO

The first vineyards in California were planted right here in San Diego at the Mission San Diego de Alcalá. Our hope is to establish San Diego County as a well known wine region, bringing wine lovers from all over to experience the taste and beauty of our area.

Twin Oaks Valley Winery is a family owned and operated business. Established in 2001, the winery was purchased by Malcolm and Kathryn Gray in 2013 to introduce new and updated winemaking techniques to making old world wines and refresh the brand. We specialize in crafting small batches of wine from the finest grapes grown in San Diego County. As a member of the San Diego County Vintners Association, we are proud to support our local farmers and growers.

“MY GOAL IS TO BRING THE GRAPE CHARACTER IN ITS PUREST FORM, AN EXPRESSION OF TERROIR."

The Winemaker

MALCOLM GRAY

As a member of the San Diego County Vintners Association, we collaborate with other wineries in the region to support the growth of winemaking and viticulture in Southern California, specifically the San Diego region. Malcolm’s passion for winemaking started with his passion for drinking wine. As an accomplished Electrical Engineer working in Silicon Valley for over 25 years, he would spend weekends at wineries in the Santa Cruz Mountains and the Sierra Foothills that led to extensive, in-depth conversations with the winemakers about grape varieties, climate and soil.  Malcolm began reading everything he could get his hands on about grapes, grape growing regions and the art of making wine.  He then attended enology courses at UC Davis when he realized, “this is what I really want to do”

Malcolm absorbed himself in “everything about wine making”, expanding his knowledge and developing his skills. His efforts paid off, winning a silver medal for the inaugural red blend, 2013 Sunset Red, at the 2016 San Diego Wine and Spirits Challenge.
